Letter to eighth grade parents regarding moving up ceremony and end of the year activities
Dear Parents and Guardians of Eighth Grade Students:
As the end of the school year approaches, the JATS (Joseph A Taub School) Administration Team wants to take this opportunity to inform parents of upcoming eighth grade activities, participation policies and information regarding in-person and virtual meetings for all eighth-grade parents.
On April 13, 2023, two parent information sessions will take place. The morning meeting will be in person at the JATS school from 10:00-10:30 a.m. The evening google meet will be held from 5:30-6:00 p.m. The JATS Administration will be hosting both meetings to discuss upcoming eighth grade activities. These meetings will help spread the word on how we will celebrate our eighth-grade students as they prepare to move up to high school. Parents who will attend the google meet should use the following link to join the meeting: http://meet.com/cuc-kzwu-syc We hope many parents will attend either of these highly informative meetings.
For all upcoming activities, students will be required to adhere to a set of rules and regulations. These procedures and requirements will become effective on April 11,2023 and remain in effect for the remainder of the school year. These procedures and requirements are as follows:
* Any student who has an out of school suspension will be excluded from one activity per suspension.
* Any student who has chronic absenteeism (more than 2x per month) will be excluded from one activity. Extenuating circumstances will be subject to the administration’s approval. (i.e., medical issues etc.)
* All students must be in good academic standing and passing all their core classes: Math, English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education. Additionally, students must complete every assignment for all classes.
* Any student behavior which violates the district code of conduct will be assigned consequences as outline in the Student/Parent Handbook. A violation of the code of conduct may result in a loss of privileges.
According to the Board Policy #5411 revised in September 2021, states that “all eighth-grade activities must take place in house.” The same policy prohibits the use of caps and gowns at the Moving Up Ceremony. Students should dress appropriately for the ceremony. For safety reasons, flat shoes are recommended. Each student will be given two tickets for admission to the Moving Up Ceremony. Tickets will be distributed the week of the Moving Up Ceremony.
To celebrate our students, the JATS Administration is planning several age-appropriate activities, all of which will be held at the school. A sample of the activities include an Awards Brunch (June 9, 2023), Field Day (with a Marvel Day Theme June 16, 2023) and a moving up ceremony (June 27, 2023.) We look forward to having parents volunteer to chaperone these activities, as well as help decorate for them. The scheduled times for these events will be announced as the dates draw closer.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact me by phone or via email and a member of the Administrative Team will return your call.
Sincerely,
Amod Field
